Flag Day

June 14, 2029

Flag Day is the American holiday honoring the adoption of the Stars and Stripes on June 14, 1777, when the Second Continental Congress resolved: “the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” Pushed by advocates like teacher Bernard J. Cigrand starting in 1885, it became official when President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed it in 1916, with Congress cementing National Flag Day in 1949.
